    Growing Up With Autism: Life Transitions

    The Weill Cornell Autism Research Program presents An Autism Symposium for Families and Professionals Transitions are often challenging for individuals and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders. This symposium will offer families and professionals the most up‐to‐date information on how to facilitate positive change in the lives of people with autism.     Elementary School (E3)- Bill Majerscak

    We are currently working on the following material for the week of April 30th, 2012:

    Subject Area: Language Arts

    Unit Title: assess, review, and build on skills across the curriculum.

    • Students will create a folder on the class computers for assignments.
    • Students will read the daily schedule.
    • Students will participate in morning L.A. warm-ups such as “exploding the code”, word decoders, and word challenges.
    • Students will answer three comprehension/critical thinking questions (if appropriate).

    Subject Area: Math
    Unit Title: assess, review, and build on skills
    • Cooking experiences to reinforce fraction concepts
    • One on one/small group instruction
    • Students will utilize the computer for independent functioning
    • Students will create a folder on the class computers for assignments.

    Subject Area: Social Studies (World Cultures, Geography, Civics concepts)

    • Students will continue to review the 5 themes of Geography
    • comprehension questions on Egypt
    • Students will finish core instruction on facts of ancient Egypt
    • Begin Ancient Greece
    • Students will utilize the internet to review state, identify, label continents, oceans of Earth
    • Students will continue to interpret a map key using internet sites on the class computer & smart board
    • Students will construct models of a  pyramid, obelisk, sphinx
    • Students will identify U.S. states and state their location.
    • Students will identify state important U.S. historical sites

    Subject Area: Science (Nutrition) Weather will be reviewed for reinforcement

    • Students will be asked to name their favorite foods.
    • Students will discuss what they eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner.
    • Students will make a healthy meal or snack on Fridays. 
    • Students will explore the following the essential questions about the nutrition.
      • What is nutrition?
      • Why should people eat healthy?
      • What happens when you eat? Where does it go? ( digestive system)
      • What is the digestive system?
      • What are vitamins/minerals? What do they do?
