    • Students will learn about how spirituals were sung by slaves to make their work less tiresome and to express their feelings.
    • Students will learn how slaves could also sing in “code” to get messages to each other.
    • Students will also hear uneven rhythm on the words “free at last”.

Closure/Summary: Students will be observed on how they use their instruments at the uneven rhythm pattern.  A short friendly verbal quiz will be given at the end of class which will ask who Martin Luther King was and what he stood for.
