Jeanne Buesser

Jeanne Buesser is President of the nonprofit grassroots organization, Apraxia Network of Bergen County (New Jersey) which she founded over 11 years ago. She is the author of the children’s book He Talks Funny and two poetry books, Journey From Darkness to Light and Moonlight Till Dawn

In 2005, Ms.Buesser was presented the “Outstanding Volunteer Achievement Award” by the Volunteers of Morris County. In 2009, she was nominated for “Volunteer of the Year” from the Learning Disabilities Association of New Jersey.

PRESENTER BIO

Jed Baker, Ph.D. is the director of the Social Skills Training Project, a private organization serving individuals with autism and social communication problems. He is on the professional advisory board of Autism Today, ASPEN, ANSWER, YAI, the Kelberman Center and several other autism organizations. In addition, he writes, lectures, and provides training internationally on the topic of social skills training and managing challenging behaviors. He is an award winning author of five books, on social skills training and managing challenging behavior. His work has also been featured on ABC World News, Nightline, the CBS Early Show, and the Discovery Health Channel.

Like so many children with special needs, Elizabeth found her voice through the arts. In Elizabeth’s case it was through the art of writing poetry. We at Montgomery Academy have seen this so many times in so many different ways. Many of our children participate in performing, musical and visual arts. That is why the arts are so important here. Some students find confidence, some social acceptance, some self identity, some find a strategy to manage difficulties and stress, and some students even find their voice.

Elizabeth’s very special talent has allowed her to find her voice and to communicate who she really is behind the veil of autism. Along with her mother, Virginia, Elizabeth has published a book filled with her poems and an inside look at her very inspiring journey.

Elizabeth is just one of the many incredibly wonderful and talented children that we have here at Montgomery Academy. We are so proud of all of them! But what

Elizabeth has done with her poetry, her spirit, and her book is to provide insight of just how “special”, these special children really are.
